Pizza, chicken and soul: new food tenants to watch

Sarpino’s Pizzeria

The Sarpino’s Pizzeria franchise will be expanding into the metros of Miami and Denver. Look for additional growth to take place in the Midwest and the Southeast, with Kansas City being targeted for immediate expansion. Shopping center spaces and regional malls will be eyed for upcoming units. Sarpino’s offers a wide menu variety for its delivery concept, offering 60+ specialty pizzas, 10+ salads, 10+ pastas, 20 different sandwiches and calzones, as well as vegan options.

Emmy Squared Pizza, which has been growing its Detroit-style pizza concept into the South, will be eyeing potential sights by 2024 in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Miami, Greenville, S.C., and Asheville, N.C. The pizzeria seeks second-generation restaurant spaces in high-traffic, affluent residential neighborhoods close to urban metros that also have a tourist draw. All spaces are considered, including urban street fronts, grocery-anchored centers and traditional retail centers.

This fast-casual chicken sandwich chain may only have three locations in Kansas, but franchise deals have already been inked to open 50+ locations in the future, with expansion expected into the new states of South Dakota and Texas. The ideal space is a freestanding pad for a drive-thru restaurant, which can be in a regional mall or a grocery-anchored center. Chick N Max serves fried tenders and wood-smoked pulled chicken, as well as 10 different chicken sandwich combinations.

The fast-casual restaurant chain plans expansion throughout the East Coast, with a focus on New York and New Jersey, after launching franchise opportunities last October. The chain currently has three locations — two in New Jersey and one in Brooklyn, N.Y. Downtown or street-front sites are desired. The chain offers soul food menu items such as baked mac and cheese, collard greens, yams, chicken, cornbread, catfish and peach cobbler.
