Retailers of all types such as apparel shops, furniture stores, restaurants, gyms and grocers are all setting their sights on new units throughout the Northeast. Many look toward the Tri-State Area for new locations, along with the Boston MSA. These chains are betting on sites in mixed-use properties, shopping centers, outlet centers and even malls to debut new locations.
Three retailers have signed leases at Atlantic Station, a mixed-use development in Stamford, Conn. Lovesac will occupy 28,000 s.f., Golf Lounge 18 will occupy 9,000 s.f. and Fresh & Co. will take over 3,000 s.f. RXR owns the property, which features 650 residences and 82,000 s.f. of retail space. Brian Scruton of Cushman & Wakefield represented Lovesac in the lease negotiations; Tim Rorick and Janey Steinmetz of Newmark represented the landlord in conjunction with internal agents. Tyler Lyman of TRUE Commercial represented both parties in the Golf Lounge 18 deal. Lyman also represented the landlord in lease negotiations with Fresh & Co.
Watch for Whole Foods Market to open a 43,916-s.f. store in Huntington Station on Long Island, N.Y., this month. The store will be located at 330 Walt Whitman Road and will offer more than 2,000 locally sourced items from more than 400 regional suppliers. The Austin-based grocer operates about 30 stores in New York, including more than half a dozen on Long Island.
QSR chain Chick-fil-A and dog daycare concept Hounds Town USA have signed leases at a 60,000-s.f. mixed-use property in Brooklyn. Chick-fil-A will occupy 5,000 s.f. within the building, while Hounds Town USA will occupy 6,000 s.f. The building also houses residential and healthcare space. David Alani and Michael Friedman of Inline Realty represented Chick-fil-A in the lease negotiations and JLL represented the landlord, Hope Street Capital.
R.J. Brunelli & Co. negotiated a 16,400-s.f. retail lease with Fitness Factory at The Gardens, a 373,612-s.f. shopping center in the Northern New Jersey community of Mount Olive. Fitness Factory will backfill a space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond. A recently opened Boot Barn occupies the other portion of the space. Danielle Brunelli of R.J. Brunelli & Co. represented the landlord in the lease negotiations.
Five new tenants have signed leases totaling approximately 30,000 s.f. at Cherry Hill Mall, a 1.4 million-s.f. shopping center in Southern New Jersey. Alo Yoga, Kendra Scott and Signature Workspace are scheduled to open at the property this year. Dry Goods and ear-piercing studio Rowan have also signed leases at the center, with the latter scheduled to open next spring. Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) owns and manages the property.
Bob’s Discount Furniture opened a 43,000-s.f. store and showroom in Burlington, Mass., a northwestern suburb of Boston. The space will house furniture with smart technology features, as well as furniture with multipurpose functionalities. Based in Manchester, Conn., Bob’s operates about 170 stores across 24 states.
Simon Property Group added five new tenants to Wrentham Village Premium Outlets on the southwestern outskirts of Boston. Pottery Barn recently opened at the center, which is also home to sister brand West Elm Outlet. Apparel retailers OFFLINE by Aerie, Hollister Co. and Gilly Hicks have also signed leases at the development. OFFLINE by Aerie will open this summer, while Hollister Co. and Gilly Hicks are scheduled to open this fall. Additionally, Shake Shack will debut a new restaurant at Wrentham Village Premium Outlets before the end of the year.
Simon Property Group also welcomed five new food-and-beverage concepts to the King of Prussia mall in metro Philadelphia. Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Eats and confectionary Neuhaus Belgium Chocolate recently debuted their eateries. Chinese restaurant Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao and New York-based Gregorys Coffee also join the lineup. Celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s restaurant concept Chicken Guy! opened in March.
