It seems as if everywhere we look, new Greek restaurants are popping up. Greek-themed fast casual restaurants seem to be the latest health food craze, with new tenants in the category continuing to surface. With the average American prioritizing a sensible diet that utilizes all-natural ingredients, Greek cuisine fits the bill. Even the US News & World Report in 2021 ranked the Mediterranean diet the #1 diet overall for the past four years, from a list of 39 other popular diets.
Greek fare attracts not just health-minded meat lovers, but also the ever-growing vegetarian audience who flock to such delicious offerings as hummus, olive tapenade, cucumbers and falafael.
Greek dining is a category that can easily accommodate the fast-casual assembly-line customization ordering format that is so popular with today’s consumers. With a Greek restaurant appealing to a consumer’s health priorities, the dining category works well with other health-related co tenants, including gyms and organic grocer brands.
Greek food tenants also work well alongside other popular fast casual eateries, in addition to ethnic-oriented restaurants.
Upscale neighborhoods with multifamily developments, especially near colleges, are sought-after spaces for many of these Greek dining brands, as the health-conscious Gen Z and Millennial customer is the targeted audience.
Urban metro locales are also ideal locations, especially with in-office tenancy expected to continue to increase in the immediate future.
Keep your eye out for various Greek-themed restaurants to continue to spread the flavorful goodness of its cuisine with continued expansion throughout the country. At least two national Greek restaurant brands anticipate opening up to 50 new units per year in the U.S., with two others anticipating opening about 25 units per year over the next two to three years.
