The team at Activate Games signed an NNN lease to open its indoor active gaming entertainment center within a standalone building that is a part of a larger strip mall in Katy, located about 30 miles west of Houston. The building currently houses two local tenants that will be vacating: Katy Music & Arts, a music shop that will be relocating to a larger space about a block away, and Red Tag Mattress & Furniture.

One hurdle was trying to find an acceptable space for Activate Games within Houston’s tight retail market. The chain was eager to expand into Texas due to the population growth the state has seen over the last few years. Activate Games is currently eyeing additional Texas markets for continued growth after opening its first unit in the state last month in Plano. The Katy unit is expected to open by this fall. The space, off of the heavily trafficked Interstate 10, is about a half-mile from a Target store. Additional tenants at the strip mall are local Houston-based brands, including E-Star Chinese Buffet, Weddings by Debbie, Floors for Living and Xtreme Offroad & Performance, which provides vehicle modifications and repairs.
