Trendy apparel tenants to watch

Snipes USA

This German-based shoe/apparel streetwear brand expanded rapidly in the U.S. through acquiring and rebranding retailers such as KicksUSA, Mr. Alan’s Men’s Bootery, Jimmy Jazz and Expressions. Look for continued growth this year in the metros of Miami, Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., with future expansion into more Western markets. Snipes USA seeks space in power centers, retail street-front sites and regional malls in urban metro areas.

Alo Yoga

Alo Yoga is expanding into all regions of the U.S., with units expected in upscale urban and suburban markets within the metros of Austin, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Calif., Jacksonville, Fla., Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. Preferred sites are Class A malls, lifestyle centers and retail street-front spaces. The high-fashion yoga apparel brand has recently been increasing its store square footage to feature in-store yoga classes, organic cafes and its beauty product merchandise.

Palmetto Moon

This Southern-based apparel and gift retailer, which also carries local collegiate merchandise, will continue to open new units in Kentucky, a state the brand first penetrated earlier this year. Look for Tennessee to also see new units this year, and for all Southern markets to continue to be eyed, such as Florida and Alabama. Palmetto Moon prefers power centers and regional mall spaces in college towns with a tourist element.

Although this premium winter lifestyle apparel brand usually seeks space in mountain resort towns, it recently opened a Boston unit in an urban setting, as the city is within close proximity to ski destinations. Upcoming units will open in Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Bozeman, Mont. Stio prefers retail streetfront spaces with heavy foot traffic.

Dolls Kill

12-Month Anticipated Openings: 1-3

Dolls Kill has been on a corporate hiring spree recently, igniting rumors of possible store growth. Expansion would most likely be in major metropolitan cities with a thriving arts community and nightlife scene, such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Denver, Boston, Phoenix and Atlanta. Preferred sites are retail street-front spaces near art colleges, trendy nightclubs and multifamily buildings.
