Every month, we reach out to retail industry leaders in order to gain their perspective on the market. This month, we asked: Are there any retail tenancy trajectories that took you by surprise recently?
Dotan Zuckerman, Head of Retail Development, Portman
At Portman, our retail strategy is laser focused on designing chef-driven dining experiences for all of our mixed-use projects. Across our mixed-use portfolio, we have 10 chef-driven concepts opening within the next year.
While the positive impact of curating a roster of incredible chef-driven concepts is not a surprise to us, we are now seeing more and more consumers choosing to dine at unique and dynamic restaurants. Post-pandemic, people want to visit energized destinations where they can gather with friends and family, and consumer appetite for this type of experience is greater than ever.
When given the opportunity, chef-driven concepts will drive foot traffic, increase rents for the surrounding uses and create an extraordinary guest experience. This is just another testament to the retail sector’s ability to evolve and adapt — a cycle that is no longer surprising.
