Chip City, a New York-based cookie chain that first began expanding outside of its home state earlier this year, signed an NNN lease to open a unit on Newbury Street, within the affluent Back Bay neighborhood. The step-down space was the former site of Dependable Cleaners, a local dry-cleaning brand that vacated in February. Chip City expects to be open by mid- to late 2023, and the space will be a takeout-style model with minimal in-store cafe seating. The space will also contain a small nook to display Chip City merchandise for sale.
Tenant: Chip City
Location: Boston
Square Footage: 1,000 s.f.
Developer/Owner: Egeria
Property Type: Urban Street Front of a Mixed-Use Building
The Chip City team was especially attracted to the corner building location because Newbury Street is one of the busiest in Boston, and the patron mix incorporates not just the local residents, but also the nearby office workers, tourists and college students. The space will be renovated to feature the brand’s signature vibrant color scheme, finish palette and architectural elements. At least two more Chip City locations will open in Boston by the end of the year, and the brand anticipates opening up to seven more in the greater Boston metro in 2024. Chip City, which changes up its cookie varieties offered per week, is known for its thick gooey cookies in unique flavors such as peanut butter and jelly, baklava or hot honey cornbread.
